The wool pea coat
Look for: 70%+ wool, slim cut, length to the top of the thigh
The piece from the most-watched video on the channel. Find the one that fits your shoulders, then own it in navy, camel, charcoal, olive and black. A short, structured coat sharpens a thicker middle better than anything long and loose.
Look for: suede or waxed cotton, short collar, clean front
A stand collar frames the jaw and hides the soft spot under the chin that every man over fifty is quietly aware of. Wear it open over a henley or zipped over a crew neck.
Look for: thick Oxford cloth, collar that buttons down
The one shirt that goes from jeans to a funeral. Buy white and light blue first. A button-down collar keeps its shape with no tie, which a regular collar does not.
Look for: dark rinse, a little stretch, straight or slim-straight leg
No rips, no fades, no skinny leg. A dark, plain jean dresses up with a coat and down with a tee, and a touch of stretch makes the squat test possible in them.
Look for: real suede, cushioned insole, rubber sole
No laces to bend down for, and they lengthen the leg. Brown suede works with denim, chinos and the pea coat, so this is the boot to buy if you buy one.
Look for: heart rate, sleep and step tracking, a plain face
A watch that earns its place on the wrist by tracking your sleep, resting heart rate and activity. Treat any blood pressure reading as a nudge to check properly, not a diagnosis.
Look for: sandalwood, cedar or vetiver notes, eau de parfum
Warmer, woodier and worn closer to the skin than what you wore at thirty. One spray on the chest, under the shirt. It should be noticed at a handshake, not across the room.
Look for: adjustable guards, cordless, washable head
A grey beard looks distinguished when it is kept short and shaped, and neglected when it is not. Trim the neckline a finger above the Adam's apple and keep the cheek line clean.
